It consists of three pillars: collaborative development of news products; training and tools for journalists; and training and tools for people.  Since the project began, we’ve met with thousands of publishers and journalists around the world to create a dialogue around how they use our products and how we can improve them so that together we can help keep people informed.

The John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University is looking for passionate journalists, innovators and entrepreneurs who are creating the new models, tools and approaches that are redefining journalism. As widespread change has swept the industry, our core mission has remained the same: to improve the quality of news and information reaching the public. That mission includes challenging misinformation and disinformation; eradicating news deserts and strengthening local news; fighting bias, intolerance and injustice; and holding the powerful accountable.

Knight Foundation is a national foundation with strong local roots. We invest in journalism, in the arts, and in the success of cities where brothers John S. and James L. Knight once published newspapers. Our goal is to foster informed and engaged communities, which we believe are essential for a healthy democracy.

For over two decades, my features were distributed by the three major syndicates simultaneously.  After completing my contractual obligations, I began Neatly Chiseled Features in 2005 to distribute my three comics:  Mr. Boffo, Willy ‘n Ethel, and Cats With Hands, to approximately three-hundred markets worldwide, including the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, Newsday, the London Daily Mail, Vancouver Sun, and Bresi SpA in Milan, Italy.  We originated the concept of animated comics accessible through the qr code.  Our CEO, John Matthews, with forty years’ syndicate experience heads up the sales and marketing operation, while I handle the writing and drawing of the three comics.  My wife Marie is president, and handles the business end.  Our animators created over six-hundred animated comics distributed to over 500 media markets.  Our latest innovation, Tune-toons, musical slideshows of my favorite comics, will be presented at the ASNE Convention.
