The conference will open with an evening reception Sunday, Sept. 11, at the landmark National Constitution Center, and essions will begin Monday morning and conclude by noon Wednesday at our conference hotel.

Our secured block of hotel rooms at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, at 1201 Market St., has expired. However, we have a limited number of reserved rooms at the $199/night group rate for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11-13. If you're attending the conference and need to book your room, then please contact ASNE Senior Information Specialist Megan Schumacher at mschumacher@asne.org with your arrival and departure dates.
For baseball fans, the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Citizens Bank Park. You can purchase tickets for $32 each when you register for the conference. Tickets are limited.

Emerging Leaders Institute at ASNE-APME Conference

The goal of this institute is to train up-and-coming minority news leaders and help them succeed in their leadership roles.
For two days, the institute will provide leadership and management training for new and mid-level news leaders from organizations across all platforms around the country. It is tailored to address the most pressing issues for leaders and the basic skills needed to lead and drive change. Some of the topics on the program include coaching and feedback, leadership style, driving diversity in news platforms, goal-setting and strategy, financial leadership, and technology and innovation.
Application
Interested candidates need to apply by filling out an online form by Aug. 26. The form includes a resume, a brief statement on goals for the institute and a nomination letter from a supervisor. Candidates will be notified of their application decision via email, and those accepted will be required to fill out a skills survey by Sept. 2. The institute, free to all participants, is limited to 30 people.
Hotel and Reimbursement
Arrangements will be made for two nights of hotel (Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10) at the Marriott, and some meals during the institute will be provided. Airfare, baggage and/or mileage, with valid receipts, will be reimbursed after the institute. If the amount exceeds $500, then attendees will need to obtain pre-approval by emailing ASNE at asne@asne.org. Use the same email address to submit travel receipts with the subject line "Emerging Leaders Institute-ASNE/APME reimbursement."
