ASNE praises Supreme Court's Internet decision

RESTON, Va. The American Society of Newspaper Editors praised the Supreme Court decision that invalidated the 1996 Communications Decency Act.

RESTON, Va. The American Society of Newspaper Editors praised the Supreme Court decision that invalidated the 1996 Communications Decency Act.

"We are delighted that the Supreme Court supported the First Amendment rights of Americans on the Internet," said ASNE President Sandra Mims Rowe. "It is significant that all of the members of the high court voted to reaffirm the First Amendment."

ASNE was a member of a group of organizations that challenged the legislation. Founded in 1922, ASNE is an organization of the main editors of daily newspapers in the United States and Canada. There are currently 875 members.
