Shield Law vote possible Thursday, Sept. 10

The Senate Judiciary Committee has formally scheduled the Free Flow of Information Act for mark-up during its Executive Business Meeting scheduled for this Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10:00 am.

We apologize for the short notice, but the Senate Judiciary Committee has formally scheduled the Free Flow of Information Act for mark-up during its Executive Business Meeting scheduled for this Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10:00 am. Though there is a chance that the committee's vote on this important legislation could be held over for a week, we believe the time is once again ripe for you to voice your support for a federal shield law, especially if your senator is a member of the Judiciary Committee.

We know that many of you editorialized or directly spoke with your senators about this issue during the recent August recess. Those editorials and conversations are a large reason that this markup has been scheduled. Your support for passage by the Judiciary Committee of S 448 in its current form will be equally important to getting it out of the committee this week.

ASNE joined more than 70 other media organizations in supporting this legislation.

You can also contact ASNE Legal Counsel Kevin M. Goldberg at 703-812-0462 or goldberg@fhhlaw.com for more information or updates.

Thank you for all the work you have done to this point. Let's hope that we'll be back to you soon to let you know that we're gearing up for debate and a vote by the full Senate.
