Austin, Texas (Sept. 12, 2018) - The American Society of News Editors elected five new members to the Board of Directors at the 2018 ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference.

A new executive committee will be added this morning at the board meeting where Nancy Barnes of the Houston Chronicle will take the reins as president of ASNE for 2018-19. Barnes succeeds 2017-18 ASNE President Alfredo Carbajal of Al Día at The Dallas Morning News.
"The year ahead promises to be a challenging one for our industry and for journalism leaders," Barnes said. "However, we are stronger when we stand together, and this year, we are committed to completing a merger with our partner, APME, as we seek to serve our members and our newsrooms and uphold the values dear to us all as journalists.
"We are very fortunate to have a slate of five outstanding journalists either renewing or beginning their board service in 2018-19."
