Send us your plans to promote open government

Sunshine Week is set for March 11-17, and we hope you and your organization will contribute to promoting a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information.

If you're an editorial cartoonist or writer, then please send a cartoon or column to sunshineweek@asne.org so we can feature your special content at sunshineweek.org and encourage others to publish during Sunshine Week. We also ask that you continue to send your celebration plans and links to be added to the participants list and events page.

In the coming weeks, we hope to announce more details about the ambitious reporting project currently being planned by ASNE's First Amendment Committee leaders Mindy Marques, executive editor of the Miami Herald, and Peter Bhatia, editor of the Detroit Free Press. Major news organizations, such as The Associated Press and the Associated Press Media Editors, will once again join forces to provide free material that all participants can use the week of March 11.

Editorial cartoons and columns, as well as other resources, will be updated regularly in the Toolkit at sunshineweek.org. To see previous submissions, check out "The Vault."

Sunshine Week 2018 is made possible by an endowment from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and by a donation from The Gridiron Club and Foundation.

ASNE launched Sunshine Week in 2005 as a national initiative. Since 2012, ASNE has partnered with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press to provide support for news organizations, libraries, universities, civic groups, nonprofits and others who want to promote open government and access to information.
