ASNE Board of Directors elects newest member

The American Society of News Editors Board of Directors has elected Nicole Carroll as the newest board member. Carroll will fill the seat left vacant when Manny Garcia, east regional editor of the USA TODAY Network, was elevated to his current position as ASNE treasurer.

Carroll is vice president/news and editor of The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com. She is also the southwest regional editor for the USA TODAY Network and oversees newsrooms in New Mexico and Utah.
"I'm honored to join the leadership of a group dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights and the free flow of information," Carroll said. "I also look forward to working with the organization on its mission of advocating for more diversity and innovation in newsrooms."
"Nicole brings innovative and decisive leadership that will help support ASNE's mission to develop new leaders to guide our newsrooms through challenges and connect with greater audiences, as well as increase diversity throughout the industry," said ASNE President Alfredo Carbajal, managing editor of Al Dia at The Dallas Morning News.
