2017 ASNE Board of Directors announced

The American Society of News Editors elected six new members to the Board of Directors. Alfredo Carbajal of Al Día at The Dallas Morning News will take the reins as president of ASNE for 2017-18.

Washington, D.C. (Oct. 10, 2017) - The American Society of News Editors elected six new members to the Board of Directors at the 2017 ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference. A new executive committee will be added during the Oct. 11 board meeting where Alfredo Carbajal of Al Día at The Dallas Morning News will take the reins as president of ASNE for 2017-18. Carbajal succeeds 2016-17 ASNE President Mizell Stewart of Gannett and the USA TODAY Network.
 
Elected to ASNE's executive committee pending the expected approval by the new board:  
  • Vice President Nancy Barnes, Houston Chronicle
  • Secretary Mike Oreskes, NPR, Washington, D.C.
  • George Stanley, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
 
Five directors elected for three-year terms:
  • Nancy Ancrum, Miami Herald
  • Emilio Garcia-Ruiz, The Washington Post
  • Mandy Jenkins, Storyful
  • Mark Russell, The Memphis Commercial Appeal
  • Joyce Terhaar, The Sacramento Bee
One director elected for a one-year term:
  • Rick Christie, The Palm Beach Post
