A note from the executive director

Hey, it's a start!

We're here at the beautiful Reynolds Journalism Institute digs at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Well, we're sort of here.

I am here, in an office, trying to figure out the voice mail system, trying to post several jobs, trying to empty one million boxes--OK, maybe about 100 boxes. All of the boxes are labeled. My favorite: ASNE proceedings 1925-1949.

Well, we're sort of here.

I am here, in an office, trying to figure out the voice mail system, trying to post several jobs, trying to empty one million boxes--OK, maybe about 100 boxes. All of the boxes are labeled. My favorite: ASNE proceedings 1925-1949.

You can even reach me:

The old ASNE phone numbers are still working, by the way, and being monitored.

ASNE staff members Suzanne Martin and Jeanne Esmond are working part-time in Virginia until we get staff hired in Columbia later this summer. Both are miracle workers. This is evident as you read these words because, in fact, they were able to get our ASNE newsletter up and running again. Shocking, but this "retired" editor had no idea how to accomplish this! I know you know what I mean.

The remarkable ASNE/Reynolds High School Journalism Institute, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, is running without a hitch, thanks to the terrific work of Diana Mitsu Klos and Connie Southard. Now in its 12th year, the institute features five two-week conferences for high school journalism advisers.

So, yes, we are in transition. And, yes, things might be ragged from time to time until we get staff on board over the next several months. But, yes, we will strive to keep things running as smoothly as possible in the meantime--retooling our website, planning next year's convention (we'll pass along information soon), and creating a strong and exciting partnership with RJI.

In the meantime, first things first: I have to learn how to use the voice mail system--and then go find a condo!
