Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has accepted an invitation to speak at the ASNE/NAA lunch on Wednesday, April 4, during the ASNE Convention at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel. Romney will speak from the same stage that President Obama will use to address ASNE and NAA attendees 24 hours earlier, at the annual Associated Press Annual Luncheon.

There have been several other exciting additions to the program in the last 48 hours, as we entered the final week before the convention begins. Legendary New York Times war correspondent C.J. Chivers, and the Times' staff photographer Tyler Hicks, have joined CBS chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan and Associated Press photographer Rodrigo Abd on the Monday, April 2 panel discussion, “Lives on the Line: Dispatches from Our war Correspondents.” The New York Times' Executive Editor Jill Abramson will make a special presentation at the beginning of the session, which will be moderated by Susan Bennett, senior vice president of the Newseum.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine LaGarde has also joined the program. LaGarde will speak along with The Associated Press' President and CEO Tom Curley, and outgoing Chairman Dean Singleton, during the AP annual meeting preceding President Obama's luncheon address.

Although the Marriott Wardman Park hotel is sold out on several nights during the convention, there are rooms available at other hotels of comparable quality and within walking distance of the Marriott. There are also a limited number of registrations available to the convention. We are no longer selling lunch tickets through the normal registration process, so if you register for the convention and are interested in purchasing lunch tickets, please contact ASNE at asne@asne.org to be put on a wait list.
