Osterman, who recently returned from the combat zone, will discuss the war during an opening day session on the hangar deck of the USS Midway Museum.
The 1st Marine Division is a multirole, expeditionary ground combat force based at Camp Pendleton . Osterman assumed his current duties in July 2009. Osterman's appearance will precede a panel discussion that will focus on what thousands of soldiers returning from the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan are experiencing, both their challenges and triumphs. Participants are Christopher Lawrence, an ex-Marine who lost a leg in Iraq and now works with Veterans Village of San Diego; Ronne Froman, a retired Navy rear admiral and Eric Greitens, a highly decorated special forces officer who was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Froman, former commander of Southern California's naval bases (a post known as the “Navy Mayor of San Diego”), is chief executive officer of National Veterans Transition Services Inc. The session will be moderated by William Sternberg, deputy editorial page editor, USA TODAY.
The two Wednesday afternoon sessions are sponsored by Northrop Grumman, also a co-sponsor of the reception that is hosted by TV Azteca aboard the Midway immediately following the program.
