Mexico's 55th president will speak at luncheon added to convention schedule.
Vicente Fox, whose election as president of Mexico in 2000 broke a 71-year-old political stranglehold in that country's governance, will be the opening speaker, April 6, at the 87th national convention of the American Society of News Editors in San Diego.
Fox, who held office as Mexico's 55th president from 2000 to 2006, will speak to a joint luncheon, which has been added to the meeting of ASNE and the Inter American Press Association at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina.
ASNE, which represents the top-level editors of U.S. daily newspapers and online-only newsrooms, and IAPA, the organization of leading newspaper editors, publishers and owners, are meeting concurrently for the first time. More than 500 news leaders from throughout the Western Hemisphere are coming together for the joint sessions that are to end on Saturday.
Fox, 68, is currently co-president of Centrist Democrat International, a coalition of Christian democratic political parties, primarily in Latin America and Europe.
Admission to the Vicente Fox luncheon will be by ticket only. Tickets are on sale through Friday, March 18 for $50 each. After that, they will be $60 each.
