San Diego wireless leader, Qualcomm, to host ASNE Friday night convention event

One of the highlights of the 2011 convention of the American Society of News Editors in San Diego, which this year features a heavy emphasis on mobile, will occur Friday evening when conferees gather on the expansive and sunlit Qualcomm campus.

A reception, dinner and tour of Qualcomm's state-of-the art interactive museum, will top off a common day of programming with ASNE and the Inter American Press Association (Latin America's newspaper editors, publishers and owners). In addition to new technology, day-time programming Friday includes presentations on press freedoms, cutting-edge design and the impact on news organizations of the drug wars along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Guests attending the “White Night” event at Qualcomm's campus, just outside San Diego, will be encouraged to wear white in a celebration of culture of the Americas and diversity. Live entertainment, a California/Baja themed-menu and a short conference program will set the stage for a night of learning, networking and socializing.

Qualcomm is a leader in developing wireless broadband technologies and will host us on their headquarters campus, which includes a 550-seat auditorium, eight-story atrium and movable glass walls that will bring warm Southern California night to this event. In addition, the museum showcases the rich history of innovation and the impact of wireless technologies on the world today. Qualcommm also has projects initiated with partners all over the world- through its Wireless Reach initiative - that create new ways for people to learn, access health care, improve the environment and reach global markets, especially in the United States and Latin America.

ASNE's 87th national gathering --“Innovation. Motivation. Leadership.”-- April 6-9 at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, will focus on producing great journalism on multiple platforms in the new digital age.

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg will headline the Thursday lunch. Thought-provokers Charlene Li of the Altimeter Group, IDEO's David Kelley, and “Drive” author Daniel Pink, respectively kick off each day of the convention. Presentations, panels and workshops will offer the latest on monetization, online reader comments, expanding your audience through social networking and the continuing debate about content aggregators and copyright.
