Facebook executive to headline ASNE Convention in San Diego

Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of the social network that is changing the way the world communicates, will be one of the headliners at this year's convention, which will be held in San Diego, April 6-9. The convention program, which is now available at ASNE's convention website, will focus on producing great journalism on multiple platforms in the digital age.

Sandberg, one of Fortune Magazine's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, will address convention attendees at the Thursday luncheon. ASNE will convene for the first time with the Inter American Press Association, Latin America's newspaper editors, publishers and owners. Together, they will represent one of the largest-ever gatherings of newsroom leaders across the Americas.

“Innovation. Motivation. Leadership,” will focus on producing great journalism on multiple platforms in this new digital age. We'll begin each day with thinking-outside-of-the box presenters: Charlene Li of the Altimeter Group on Thursday, IDEO's David Kelley on Friday, and “Drive” author Daniel Pink on Saturday. Those presentations will be followed by general sessions and workshops on monetizing content, cutting-edge news design, dynamic leadership and other industry issues.

The opening reception on Wednesday will be held on the deck of the aircraft carrier, the U.S.S Midway Museum and will be preceded by a program about the war in Afghanistan and what happens when the soldiers return home. On Friday night, Qualcomm is hosting convention attendees at the company's La Jolla campus. Qualcomm is a wireless telecommunications research and development company.
