One way to get involved in Sunshine Week 2018 and join the weeklong celebration of public access to information, which begins Sunday, March 11, is publishing and distributing the special reporting package, produced by ASNE, The Associated Press and the Associated Press Media Editors. Most of the contents are now available on the AP wire and on the ASNE Sunshine Week page for members only (log in required). The Sunshine Week website will also release the package Sunday, March 11. All of the materials, free for anyone and everyone during Sunshine Week, are embargoed for use in print editions of Sunday and online beginning 3:01 a.m. EDT Sunday.
If you haven't already signed on as a participant of Sunshine Week, then please go to the participants page to do so. You'll be in good company with dozens of news organizations, civic groups, libraries, nonprofits, schools and others interested in the public's right to know. Also, look through this calendar of events, and email us your plans to sunshineweek@asne.org.
Sunshine Week 2018 is made possible by continuous support from ASNE's longtime partner Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and generous contributions from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Gridiron Club and Foundation.
ASNE launched Sunshine Week in 2005 as a national initiative to coincide with the March 16 birthday of James Madison, the nation's fourth president and a major architect of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
