Check out Philly programming for ASNE-APME conference Sept. 11-14

The 2016 ASNE-APME Newsleadership Conference kicks off in less than 10 weeks in Philadelphia! Here are three things you don't want to miss:

1. It's going to be a party!

Join us at the opening reception at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the National Constitution Center (525 Arch St.). We'll have cocktails and South Philly favorites from Italian meats and cheeses to grilled vegetable skewers to cheese steaks to chicken cutlet sandwiches to Italian hoagies and much more. A popular Philly jazz quartet, featuring Tanqueray Hayward, one of the city's top jazz vocalists, will entertain throughout the evening.

Ralph Archbo
Ralph Archbold, known as the official Benjamin Franklin for Philly, will join the crowd and offer advice on running a newspaper. Archbold has been impersonating Franklin since 1973, and interestingly enough, he was born on Franklin's birthday. Don't forget to stay around and get to know the "founding father!"

Marty Baron
 2. "Embracing Challenges," keynote speech by Marty Baron.

Executive editor of The Washington Post, Baron will discuss his efforts to transform one of the nation's most storied newsrooms, what he's learned about making change and why he's optimistic about the future of journalism.

3. "Free digital tools all newsrooms should be using right now." Yes, free tools! Don't miss this.

We will introduce you to a host of tools available to help your newsroom with mapping, building cardstacks, developing interactives, producing quick videos, and more.

All conference sessions, except for the opening reception, will take place at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, our conference hotel, at 1201 Market St.

Registration is $275 for members of ASNE and $375 for nonmembers. Lunch tickets are $40 each for Tuesday and Wednesday, and a limited number of tickets are available for the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Philadelphia Phillies baseball game at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets can be purchased for $32 when you register for the conference.

Deadline to make hotel reservations is Aug. 19. The block of rooms we reserved at the Marriott has a nightly rate of $199 for Sunday, Sept. 11, through Wednesday, Sept. 14.
