ASNE and OpenTheGovernment.org have created questions you can ask federal candidates about their views on open government and transparency.

Ahead of Sunshine Week 2016, ASNE is proud to announce a new resource to help make open government a key part of the election-year discussion.
Working with Openthegovernment.org, a nonprofit whose work seeks to advance the public's right to know and to reduce unnecessary secrecy in government, we have created a set of questions that can be asked of federal candidates to ensure they are transparent about their views on government openness. You might find it valuable to have these handy as candidates for federal office, whether they are running for president, senator or representative, meet with your editorial board, or perhaps you'll want to arm your reporters with the questions as they attend campaign events or debates. Or, you might simply want to print this list to let interested citizens ask the questions themselves.
Regardless, we see these as a way to make sure that open government isn't simply discussed when a controversy arises but instead becomes a core part of our public policy discussions. For more information about these questions, please feel free to contact ASNE Legal Counsel Kevin M. Goldberg at 703-812-0462 or goldberg@fhhlaw.com.
