Get ready for ASNE-APME conference, packed with great programming!

 
"Digital Showcase" exhibition Sunday, Oct. 18

  • Digital Showcase features innovative startups, organizations and individuals providing research, consulting, software and other services to transform newsrooms through digital storytelling, culture change and audience engagement. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, conference attendees will have the opportunity to go around each table in the main lobby of the Li Ka Shing Center and check out several different exhibitions. 

Come join us Oct. 16-18 at Stanford University in Palo Alto for the ASNE-APME #Editors3D conference! Our awe-inspiring sessions and conversations on diversity, digital and disruption, as well as a variety of activities will help you learn new ways to move forward and make connections with fellow decision-makers in the journalism industry. Our secured block of hotel rooms at the Sheraton Palo Alto expired. However, we have a very limited number of reserved rooms for only Friday and Saturday nights. Please contact ASNE Finance Director Cindy Roe at croe@asne.org if you're attending the conference and need to book your room for Friday and/or Saturday.

The conference will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and conclude at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Some highlights:

Opening reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16

  • This evening reception at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center will open the conference. There will be California wine and music and a keynote speech by David Kelley, a creator of the Apple mouse and founder of the groundbreaking d.school at Stanford. Kelley will share his thoughts on how each of us can find joy in our creative endeavors.
  • The silent and live auction will take place at the opening reception at the alumni center. Various items will be featured, such as sports tickets, vacation retreats, jewelry, autographed books and much more. Willing to donate auction items or bid for some items online? Click here for details.

Conference sessions Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18

  • Conference sessions will be at the Li Ka Shing Learning and Knowledge Center, part of the Stanford Medical School.

One-on-one coaching sessions Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18

  • Jill Geisler, Bill Plante Chair in Leadership and Media Integrity at Loyola University Chicago, and Butch Ward, a senior faculty member at The Poynter Institute, will be available to meet with editors and other news leaders from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17. Ward will also be available during the same hours on Sunday, Oct. 18. There is no charge for the 30-minute sessions for ASNE and APME members. "The new sheriff in town" session Saturday, Oct. 17

  • Editors who've recently moved to top leadership roles will share their strategies for innovation in a candid conversation with Jill Geisler. How do they build traction and trust while implementing changes? What mistakes do they regret? What can other editors learn from their experience?

"Five cardinal sins and five legal issues to bear in mind" session, Sunday, Oct. 18

  • ASNE Legal Counsel Kevin Goldberg will discuss some of the questions most frequently asked by media clients and look at five current policy issues.

Seattle Times.
