If you register by Tuesday, Sept. 15, for the ASNE-APME conference Oct. 16-18 at Stanford University, then you can bring your colleague from your news organization for only $150.

The $150 discounted registration rate for a second editor you bring to our ASNE-APME conference Oct. 16-18 at Stanford University is good through Tuesday, Sept. 15. Contact ASNE Communications Coordinator Jiyoung Won at jwon@asne.org if you are interested in this special rate. She will send you a promo code to register your colleague. Also, contact her if you're already registered and would like to bring your colleague for the $150 rate.

Don't forget that hotel reservations are due Tuesday, Sept. 15. The block of rooms we reserved at the Sheraton Palo Alto (625 El Camino Real) for $169/night for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will not be available after Sept. 15. Rates for Wednesday and Thursday are $329/night.

"News in real time" is one of our morning breakout sessions from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. In this era of 24/7 news, many large and small news organizations are investing in teams of real-time reporters, social curators and editors focused on ways to get developing stories to audiences across multiple channels both quickly and accurately. This session will discuss the tactics and tools that can make these efforts successful in small, medium and large news organizations.
Mandy Jenkins, Storyful's director of news, will moderate the session and bring in meaningful discussions with panelists, including Julie Westfall, real-time news editor at the Los Angeles Times; Sachin Kamdar, Parse.ly's CEO; Jim McClure, editor of the York Daily Record; and Thomas Brew, managing editor of BreakingNews.com.
You won't want to miss the awards luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. We will hear from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Alex Tizon for a keynote and recognize the winners of the prestigious ASNE and APME awards. Lunch tickets are $35.
