ASNE's Community Roundtables Project heads to NYC Aug. 13

Register for ASNE's community roundtable Aug. 13 in New York City!

In partnership with the The City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism, we will gather a diverse mix of cross-sector community stakeholders to have an expert-facilitated conversation on what we know about the state of pedestrian safety in the city, how it's covered, how we talk about it in our communities and what further information we seek.

On Aug. 13, ASNE and the The City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism will gather New York City civic leaders, community residents and journalists for a community dialogue on pedestrian safety and traffic policy in New York City.

Every year, hundreds of pedestrians die from car accidents in the city, but their deaths don't receive the same coverage as fatalities that result from violence. Is the public getting comprehensive and balanced coverage of the number of traffic-related deaths and traffic policy enforcement? What kinds of information are citizen decision-makers using to inform their view on the debate?

We will gather a diverse mix of cross-sector community stakeholders to have an expert-facilitated conversation on what we know about the state of pedestrian safety in the city, how it's covered, how we talk about it in our communities and what further information we seek. A key outcome of the discussion will be developing ideas for informing, influencing and encouraging the conversation about this issue in communities in the city.  The event is part of ASNE's National Community and News Literacy Roundtables Project, which is in partnership with the News Literacy Project and the American Press Institute and funded in part by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.
