ASNE, among dozens of journalism organizations, signed the Committee to Protect Journalists' "Right to Report" petition to President Obama to seek better protections for journalists in the digital age.
ASNE members and the companies and organizations they work for are invited to sign the petition and publicize their participation via their pages, websites and social media, including the use of the hashtag #righttoreport.
ASNE is one of dozens of journalism organizations to have signed a petition to President Obama that seeks enhanced protections for journalists in the digital age.
The Committee to Protect Journalists' "Right to Report" petition also has been signed by more than 1,500 individuals, all of whom have called on the president to:
- issue a presidential policy directive prohibiting the hacking and surveillance of journalists and media organizations.
- limit aggressive prosecutions that ensnare journalists and intimidate whistleblowers.
- prevent the harassment of journalists at the U.S. border.
As the petition notes: "If journalists cannot communicate in confidence with sources, they cannot do their jobs."
