Chris Peck is the incoming board director of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. He is the editor of Riverton Ranger in Wyoming.
Q: What do you think is a good journalism for today's media?
A: Good journalism needs to be accurate, fair and complete.
Q: What are some of the biggest challenges that ASNE is facing this year?
A: In the sea of opinions, instant analysis and everybody being a journalist on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, people can become confused about where to get good information and how to sort it out.
Q: What do you believe is the future of print?
A: Print is very likely will be a part of the larger media environment for a long time. But it's very likely that digital will be the dominant platform for news and information going forward.
Q: How would you describe the “future audience?”
A: Significant generational change is underway in terms of media habits and consumption in this country. The Baby Boomers are retiring and their influence is lessening. The Millennials and their generation are on the ascent. This new generation will have its own interest and worldview.
Q: How would you describe the importance of social media in today's media environment?
A: Social media plays an important role in aggregating information and in shaping public opinion.
