Metcalf Institute's free, special climate change seminar is just one of many great reasons to attend our ASNE-APME conference Sept. 15-17 at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. The conference has a lot more to offer, including the following highlights.
Opening remarks by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel:
- Emanuel is expected to welcome attendees, and the conference will quickly evolve into a powerful program on leading change.
Leadership session Monday, Sept. 15:
- Tom Rosenstiel, executive director of the American Press Institute, and Amy Webb, CEO of WebbMedia Group, will examine the trends and issues facing newsroom leaders.
Opening night reception and auction Monday, Sept. 15:
- We'll party together at the historic Tribune Tower, sponsored by the Chicago Tribune. The silent and live auctions will offer sports tickets, vacation retreats, jewelry, autographed books and more.
Awards lunch Tuesday, Sept. 16:
- We'll celebrate winners of the ASNE Awards and the APME Journalism Excellence Awards.
Evening entertainment options Tuesday, Sept. 16:
- Take a Chicago river cruise and enjoy the beautiful skyline on the Mystic Blue, partially sponsored by the Illinois Press Association and Illinois Associated Press Media Editors.
- See the Chicago Cubs play the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.
First Amendment session Wednesday, Sept. 17:
- We'll have a discussion on where we are in terms of the state and federal government's efforts to control information.
APME's 'Great Ideas Book'
- Would you like to be the first one to take a look at the "Great Ideas Book," which features the best and brightest ideas from around the industry? It will be compiled on flash drives and handed out at ASNE-APME 2014.
- You can still submit your 'great idea' until Thursday, July 17. For print or online, it can be something new and innovative
and thrown in from left field, or it can be a fresh take on something we do every day. It's free to enter the contest.
To attend the ASNE-APME conference, register for $250 if you're a member of ASNE and $350 if you're a nonmember. APME members can register at apme.com.
And don't forget to reserve your hotel room as soon as possible. The block of rooms we reserved at the Hyatt Regency for $189/night until Aug. 29 is filling up quickly. There will be a dramatic rate increase per night when the block sells out.
