You have another great reason to attend the ASNE-APME conference Sept. 15-17 at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. That is the special post-conference workshop we're working on with the highly regarded Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting

We're happy to announce that registration is open for the Institute's free, two-session "Climate Change and the News" seminar from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18

Register as soon as possible to receive your free lodging on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Hyatt Regency. Rooms will be limited and available first-come, first-served to participating editors.

This environmental seminar will try to answer the following questions:

  • How do news editors, bombarded with information about climate change, discern fact from hype?
  • What should your news audience know about the regional and national policy implications of climate change, and why should they care?
  • What actions and tools can empower news audiences rather than simply overwhelming them with concerns?

Leading scientists and policy experts will be there to explore the latest decisions driving local, state, regional and national responses to climate change and the implications for your news audiences. The seminar will provide essential information and sources for news editors looking for fresh hooks for their reporters, as well as the ability to cut through the hype to find the compelling and under-reported stories about climate change.
