Happy Sunshine Week to everyone! As you know, Sunshine Week 2014 kicked off Sunday, and it will be on until Saturday, March 22. Join ASNE, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and many other organizations in celebrating the positive impact of open government and access to public information.
In case you missed it, the 16th annual National Freedom of Information Day was held successfully on Friday at the Newseum's Knight Conference Center in Washington, D.C. The day featured panel discussions and speakers, including a look at media leaks past and present. With live coverage, the event drew a lot of attentions on social media.
Check out the events calendar at sunshineweek.org for a list of more than 20 events planned for this week around the country, and feel free to attend as many of them as you'd like. Here's what's happening just on Tuesday, March 18:
- Seventh Annual FOI Day Celebration
- Lifting the Veil on the FISA Court
- Panel: Data Transparency in Financial Regulation
- Unlocking Government Data
- Open Meetings, Public Records
Thanks to many organizations and individuals who have shared their participation plans and sent us a variety of columns and cartoons for use! And thanks to all who have kept @SunshineWeek in their tweets, including Sen. Patrick Leahy.
