You can celebrate by attending any of the dozens of Sunshine Week events hosted by various organizations around the country. The 16th annual National Freedom of Information Day at the Newseum and the Chicago Headline Club's FOIA Fest are Friday, March 14. The D.C. Open Government Summit takes place next Wednesday, March 19. Other events include Seventh Annual FOI Day Celebration, Sunshine Week 2014 Celebration at the Department of Justice, Unlocking Government Data, Threats to Transparency: Problems with Money in Politics and many more. See our calendar on sunshineweek.org for a complete list.

Thanks to many organizations and individuals who have shared their participation plans and sent us a variety of columns and cartoons for use! Continue to let us know this week how you and your organization are planning to celebrate Sunshine Week 2014 by emailing us at sunshineweek@asne.org

Sunshine Week 2014 is made possible by an endowment from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and by generous donations from Bloomberg and the Gridiron Club and Foundation.

All groups and individuals are welcome to participate and use the resources provided on the Sunshine Week website to mark their open-government efforts. Check the "Toolkit" section frequently to see a growing collection of editorial cartoons and opinion columns for your use at no cost during the week of March 16-22.

Another great resource you may find useful is the "Schools & Colleges" page, which features resources for student journalists who want to learn more about open government. The page also links to lesson plans, activities and events that ASNE's Youth Journalism Initiative has prepared on SchoolJournalism.org to help high school students and teachers bring Sunshine Week 2014 into their journalism classrooms.

Launched in 2005 and partnered with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in 2012, Sunshine Week is a national initiative to promote a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information.
