Today the Senate Judiciary Committee needs to pass the Free Flow of Information Act.

Under this legislation, which has already passed in the House, reporters would be shielded by federal law from efforts to force them to reveal confidential sources.

According to the Newspaper Association of America, more than 40 newsgatherers have been challenged in federal court to produce confidential material and reveal the names of whistle-blowers and others who want the public to know about wrongdoing.

Exceptions to the proposed federal law require reporters to reveal confidential information in matters of national security or imminent danger.

The Senate should approve this legislation.
