ASNE Welcomes the Introduction of New FOIA Legislation

An important bill was introduced in the Senate yesterday that addresses many recent concerns expressed by ASNE about implementation of the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by courts and executive branch agencies. A bipartisan coalition of Senators (Charles Grassley (R-IA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced the Open and Responsive Government Act (S. 2220).

American Society of News Editors and The Associated Press Media Editors joined The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in submitting a letter last week arguing against the EPA’s proposed changes to its Freedom of Information Act regulations.
