ASNE, Google News Lab release 2017 diversity survey results with interactive website

Washington, D.C. (Oct. 10, 2017)- The American Society of News Editors announced today at the annual News Leadership Conference that minority journalists comprised 16.6 percent of the workforce in U.S. newsrooms that responded to this year's Newsroom Employment Diversity Survey. This finding shows only a half-percentage-point decrease from last year's figure and is still several percentage points higher than the percentages recorded for much of the past two decades.

ASNE to overhaul annual diversity survey with $300,000 Democracy Fund grant

Washington, D.C. (Oct. 10, 2017) - The Democracy Fund has awarded the American Society of News Editors Foundation a $300,000 grant to create a more comprehensive and data-driven survey that catalogues newsroom diversity numbers for U.S. print and online publications.

ASNE to increase legal, educational resources for journalists through Charles Koch Foundation grant

Washington, D.C. (Oct. 9, 2017) - The American Society of News Editors, together with an $80,000 grant from the Charles Koch Foundation, is pleased to announce that it will be significantly expanding membership benefits. Support for the popular ASNE Legal Hotline, led by Kevin Goldberg, an experienced media attorney and leading Freedom of Information Act expert, will be increased. An educational series focused on First Amendment rights of the press will also debut later this year as part of the grant.
