ASNE launched the 2016 Newsroom Employment Diversity Survey, previously known as the Newsroom Employment Census. Your organization should have received an email with the survey. Please fill it out promptly and help us accurately measure the progress toward diversity in U.S. newsrooms. Contact us at asne@asne.org if you haven't received the survey.
ASNE commits to train and develop emerging news leaders

ASNE invites up-and-coming news leaders for the Emerging Leaders Institute June 10-11 at Loyola University Chicago. Limited to 30 participants, the institute is free and provides travel reimbursements. Participants will learn skills they can put to work immediately! Topics include coaching and feedback, leadership style, driving diversity in news platforms, goal-setting and strategy, financial leadership, and technology and innovation. Register now!
There will be two more institutes later in the summer. More details coming soon.
Discounted room rate for Cybersecurity for Editors expires May 9

It's critical that we make online and newspaper newsrooms as diverse as the nation's population to provide fair and accurate coverage of communities and the country.

Register today for Cybersecurity for Editors, a one-of-a-kind workshop June 3-4 at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Hosted by ASNE and Merrill College, the workshop will feature former intelligence officers, security and forensic experts, as well as a respected lawyer and an award-winning former cyber reporter, to provide the most practical sessions relevant in the digital era. As an added bonus, every attendee will receive travel (airfare, baggage, hotel and/or mileage) reimbursements of up to $300.

ASNE is sending out the 2016 newsroom diversity survey (previously known as the newsroom census) this week. With revisions, the survey reflects the growth of online-only news organizations, changes in job types, reliance on part-time journalists and other trends. Please fill it out promptly when your organziation receives it in the email.
The diversity survey is sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
ASNE-member rate (only $200) for NAA mediaXchange expires April 15

ASNE members are eligible to register for NAA mediaXchange 2016 at the $200 rate until April 15. This is a huge discount, compared to the regular rate of $1,095. The conference will provide insights to help news media professionals grow audience and revenue. One of the sessions "Changing the Culture: What Works" is co-sponsored by ASNE.
ASNE joins amicus brief arguing against mandatory 'staying' of order

ASNE joined 26 other media organizations and companies in a brief that argues for the immediate release of dash cam video of an officer-involved shooting in Gardena, California. We argue that First Amendment interest in transparency and accountability outweighs any interest in keeping videos or other records confidential.
