Leahy’s bill could help ASNE member news organizations repel chronic content thieves, while S. 978 is aimed at websites that stream copyrighted audio or video without a license or other permission. According to a blog post by ASNE general counsel Kevin Goldberg, the latter has “serious muscle behind it” and “will get some attention and movement.”
ASNE members overwhelmingly approve bylaws changes

By a vote of 121 to 10, ASNE members agreed to open the organization's membership to a larger pool of editors, educators and leaders of nonprofit groups dedicated to journalism. The amendment that was approved also creates a new nonvoting "Friends of ASNE" category. The changes are aimed at boosting ASNE's membership and making the organization more inclusive by better defining who is a leader in producing news content in the digital age.

Supreme Court decision in Milner may be precursor to legislative brawl

Soon after Milner eradicated the "high 2" exemption that had been expanded by government agencies to justify withholding otherwise FOIA-able material, the Department of Justice's Office of Information Policy posted guidance to agencies regarding post-Milner practices.
Large majority of survey respondents pleased with ASNE’s San Diego convention

Ninety percent of those who responded to the post-convention survey indicated that it met or exceeded their expectations. Best-selling author Daniel Pink and Facebook’s Justin Osofsky were the highest-rated speakers, and a reception on the USS Midway and an evening at Qualcomm were the most popular social events.
