Convention videos now available

Complete video recordings of most of the major programs at the 2010 ASNE convention have been posted. Over 13 hours of video from the general sessions and lunch presentations at ASNE's NewsNow Industry Summit are available. They feature speakers like Alan Rusbridger, Dave Eggers, Arianna Huffington, and Tom Curley, and topics like charging for digital content, investigative collaborations and the future of professional journalism.
Survey respondents give 2010 ASNE convention high marks

“I think this was one of the most intelligent conferences I have been to in a long time. It was forward thinking, honest, informative and well executed,” said one of the convention attendees who responded to our post-convention survey. “A tour de force, far exceeding my expectations,” raved another. They weren't alone: Fifty-seven percent of the 118 respondents indicated the convention exceeded their expectations. Here's what they had to say. ASNE seminar: Bad reporting contributes to broken health-care system

Eight editors convened in Boston last week for an ASNE seminar on health-care coverage sponsored by the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making. FIMDM's presenters argued that the U.S. health-care system “medicalizes” commonplace conditions and promotes the use of expensive treatments and new technology without regard to their cost or efficacy, and that the media shares blame for this broken system. ASNE to issue opinion pieces attacking myths about newspapers and reportorial journalism

ASNE today announced that it would be issuing a series of opinion pieces written by ASNE editors and legal counsel reinforcing the vitally important role of newspapers and professional journalism in the digital age. The first piece was issued today, and the others will be released in sequential order over the next four weeks. The pieces will be available to run in any newspaper or media outlet as columns, or they can be used by ASNE members and others to stimulate columns of their own, or to give talks in their communities, do media interviews or to get the word out in other ways.
ASNE president solicits committee participation

“ASNE is a year-round organization and the lifeblood of our work is our committees, which this year have been expanded in number and scope to address the most important interests of our organization,” Milton Coleman said today in an e-mail message asking members to consider joining a committee. Coleman noted that several new committees have been established this year, and that members can learn more about them by reading mission statements that will be posted on the ASNE website.
