Candidates for the board of directors

Nine candidates will vie for five, three-year terms on the board. The voting begins Thursday, April 1; members who don't vote online can cast their ballots at the ASNE convention. Winners will be announced by Wednesday, April 14, the final day of the convention.
Journalism organizations form Haiti News Project

ASNE is a founding member of the project, which aims to help Haitian print journalists restore basic communications in their country by providing equipment and technology, training, and tents for journalists who remain homeless since the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12.
Knight-funded innovations featured at ASNE convention

An afternoon session on the third day of the convention will feature quick-paced presentations of six groundbreaking journalism tools that have already been adopted in a number of newsrooms. Later the same day the presenters will participate in “Innovations Salons” — small-group discussions designed to allow ASNE members to learn more about the tools by speaking directly with the people behind them.
President Obama issues statement on Sunshine Week

"As Sunshine Week begins, I want to applaud everyone who has worked to increase transparency in government and recommit my administration to be the most open and transparent ever, an effort that will strengthen our democracy and ensure the public's trust in their government," said President Obama today, in a statement that also trumpeted his administration's achievements on the open government front. Special Counsel Norm Eisen also issued a Sunshine Week statement that included details about the "many areas where (the Obama administration has) opened government up and let the sunshine in.
Google CEO to Keynote ASNE Convention

Eric Schmidt will be the opening speaker at ASNE's NewsNow 2010 Ideas Summit, to be held in Washington, D.C. April 11-14. Schmidt will speak prior to the conference's opening reception on Sunday, April 11, which is being co-sponsored by Google and the Knight Foundation. Others scheduled to speak during the summit include Alan Rusbridger of The Guardian, David Carr of The New York Times, The Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, Yahoo! News honcho Mark Walker, and the editor and author Dave Eggers.
