Committee work has been the lifeblood and strength of ASNE for years and is an entry point for many editors to the organization. Although we did not meet at a convention this year, I am already impressed with thededication of our chairs to accomplish goals they have set for their committees. I am indebted to my committee chairs, some of whom have been called into action later than usual, replacing those who had to resign after leaving the business or whose duties have changed at their news organizations.

ASNE Diversity Director Bobbi Bowman to receive 2009 Ida B. Wells Award

Representatives of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Conference of Editorial Writers have selected Bobbi Bowman, former diversity director of the American Society of News Editors, as the 2009 recipient of the Ida B. Wells Award. The Wells award is presented annually to a media executive who has demonstrated a commitment to diversifying the nation's newsrooms and improving the coverage of people and communities of color.
